Houlton Town Council Thoughts

Being a member of a Town Council can be a thankless job. This is true in Houlton as well. Recent past history hasn't always been kind to Houlton members. There were lawsuits and personality conflicts aplenty. For those of us with an interest, you could watch it all play out on cable tv each and every meeting.

However, during this time, and more recently also, there have been some pretty dedicated people serve their terms. These people represent us. I feel that most of them remember that too.

Personally speaking, I did NOT vote for our present chairman. I had seen some of his actions when he was a coach and did not always agree with his judgement. I will now state this: This year I WILL BE casting my vote for him. He has been a huge surprise in my eyes, being nothing but professional during meetings. Council is again often divided 3-3, and he has to cast the deciding vote. I never thought in a million years I would say this; but often, his has been the voice of reason.

The election is just around the corner and some seats are vacant. I urge you to vote.

I also ask you to consider this: Houlton has a candidate who has already appealed FOUR petitons, (which is his right). Town attorneys denied three and upheld one. He was livid and is going to appeal the decisions. This candidate has been seen by the voting public each week at meetings as he usually has some long rambling thoughts and opinions to make during the pubic comments section of the meetings. Do you want this person serving you? Do you agree with his thoughts? Are you willing to take a chance and vote for him ?.....

My perception of this candidate , is that he likes to stir the pot. The candidate actually lives outside of Houlton; but keeps an apartment in town, so that he can run for office(s), ( He is already on the Budget Committee ). This is legal- but I will question , "how ethical?"

My point is this: Vote ! You will have no one to blame but yourself if the so called "wrong people" get elected to office.

I'm back on line with many new thoughts

Sorry for not publishing any of my views recently. After my annual summer vacation, my computer decided it needed a vacation too. I took it into one of our local shops for repairs, and apparently they must have taken a vacation also - it took forever to get it fixed. However, it is fixed, as good as new, and it is time to start putting my views in print once again.

Some of my next views will be re caps of events that have happened during my downtime; but they will all be my random thoughts of happenings in and around Houlton, the wasy I view them from my couch.

Enjoy !
